Is something going to be done about all the spammers?

Believe me when I say I'm just as tired it as I'm sure you and everyone else is. Over the past few weeks, we have gotten noticeably more spam and measures are being put in place to fix it now. After talking to some of the other guys, we're going to be doing a few things to make sure that the value of NCEMSForum doesn't diminish because of this.

The reason it's so tricky is because these spam posts aren't being made by "bots" - I've already gotten a system in place that deletes those before they ever reach the forum. The problem is these posts are being made by people hired to do so, ones with legitimate accounts - some with profile images, interests, and personal websites.

Without going into too much nerdy detail, I'm working on it, we're working on it and you should notice the elimination of a lot of it as soon as possible. In the mean time, I'm doing my best to check the forum regularly to delete any mess and appreciate any help with reported posts.

I apologize if my message came across as snappy- I was more interested than upset because I am curious as to what can be done. I knew that the spam accounts were not being made by bots- and that is why I am interested in how you are going to employ techniques against the 'humanware'. I'll report 'em when I see 'em

Thanks for all you do!

No worries, it's a valid question.

I added a few things today. Most importantly, all newly registered members have to have their first post approved by a moderator, that way any spam posts won't even reach readers.

Sorry I haven't been around the much lately guys. I've been working my butt of, as well as taking summer class at my local community college.

Anyhow, Like John has stated, a bunch of new measures have been taken to try and prevent spammers. It should be almost impossible now be able to spam these forums, as we have made it these forums. that a new member cannot post without a moderation review for your first official post on these forums.

Just wanted to follow up on my last post, the spam measures I implemented are now in place and from the looks of it, it's working. You should notice a substantial (if not total) elimination of spam posts. The next step is to weed out any inappropriate users and user profiles. Thanks for your patience.
